Western Province Cricket Club’s Ryan Klein welcomed a first-class debut on day one of Western Province’s CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup fixture against Northerns at Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday.

Rondebosch Cricket Club’s Tayo Walbrugh was named in the 14-man squad, but not the final XI. The team is captained by Durbanville Cricket Club’s Andre Malan – and also features Cape Town Cricket Club’s Thando Ntini, Bellville Cricket Club’s Justin Dill and Milnerton Cricket Club’s Mthiwekhaya Nabe. Durbanville Cricket Club’s Carlos Koyana was also left out of the XI.

“With the first game being on Thursday, it is vital that get we get the ball rolling with some wins under our belt and this is what we intend to do in the opener against Northerns,” said leg-spinner Junaid Dawood, who played for the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club last season before moving to Western Province Cricket Club.

“The first game will not be a walk in the park, but I am confident that if we do come out firing, with both bat and ball, we can attain victory and look to carry the momentum into the other games.”
