Seamer Leah Jones was the Cape Vikings’ most expensive purchase at the recent Women’s Cape Premier League player auction.
The Vikings paid 1.6 million CPL dollars – the tournament’s fictional currency – for Jones. This amounted to almost a third of the Vikings’ budget of six million.
The Vikings attempt to sign former Proteas Women captain Mignon du Preez during the auction, but were outbid by the Atlantic Pirates.
Prior to the auction, the Vikings acquired quartet Alexa Jooste, Kayla Reyneke, Jemma Botha and Caitlin Wyngaard.
The Cape Premier League has existed as a men’s tournament since 2019. The inaugural women’s CPL is scheduled to start in late September 2023.
