Brackenfell Cricket Club to ‘raise bar higher’ with Rushdi Jappie

Brackenfell Cricket Club have welcomed the appointment of new head coach Rushdi Jappie ahead of the 2023-24 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.

Jappie has returned to Brackenfell Cricket Club from Rylands Cricket Club in the WPCA premier league. He has succeeded former Brackenfell Cricket Club coach Wesley Thomas.

“It is that time of the year again when we get ready for the season of 2023-24 and this year brings a few changes. Wesley Thomas leaves us as head coach. We would like to thank Wesley for his time,” read a statement from Brackenfell Cricket Club.

“We thank Wesley for his service and wish him well in his endeavours. We would like to welcome Rushdi Jappie as our head coach and as a player.

“Rushdi brings a lot of experience and enthusiasm and we are excited to work towards our goals for the season of 2023-24.”

Brackenfell Cricket Club have been relegated to the WPCA first division A after ending the 2022-23 premier league in second-last position. Seamer Brandon Viret and all-rounder Philip Kleynhans have since left Brackenfell Cricket Club for Bellville Cricket Club in the premier league.

“I want to congratulate Rushdi on his new position with us. In what will be an important season for us, I know that his skills are a great fit as a player-coach and the team will raise the bar higher than it has ever been,” added Brackenfell Cricket Club chairman Arthur Mostert.

“A team’s structure, attitude and ability all start with good coaches and players willing to work hard towards their goals.”
