Batsman Derek Mitchell has resigned as Western Province Cricket Club first XI captain ahead of the 2023-24 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

New captain Ridaa Isaacs has succeeded Mitchell, who was the leading run-scorer in the 2022-23 WPCA premier league.

“Since Joining the club at the end 2011, I have captained for several seasons – of those seasons on two separate occasions,” Mitchell told Club Cricket SA.

“I have loved being the club captain and am extremely grateful that I was afforded that opportunity to do so.

“Looking to the future, forward planning of the club and for me to focus more on cricket chairman duties, it is right time for me to step down and the next person to take over.

Isaacs joined WPCC from the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club in 2018.

“I’m backing Ridaa Isaacs to do a great job and, along with head coach Shawn Dyson, I have no doubt they will make a strong partnership and take the team forward,” added Mitchell.
