Batsman Rikus Walters, seamer James Albanie and all-rounder Abdul-aziz Temoor have been named in the Boland Over-40 squad for May 2023’s inter-provincial tournament at the Wanderers Cricket Club in Johannesburg.
Albanie is currently playing for South Africa in the Over-50 World Cup. Walters has represented Cape Town Cricket Club in the Western Province Veterans Cricket Association league.
Temoor is player coach at Hottentots Holland Cricket Club in Western Province Cricket Association first division B competition.

What the Boland Veterans Cricket Association said
“Following weeks of rigorous trials, practice matches and selectors’ deliberation, we are pleased to announce the Boland Over-40 squad,” read a statement from Boland Veterans Cricket chairman Claude Chantler.
“The team will participate in the upcoming inter-provincial tournament that will be held at the Wanderers Cricket Club from 7 to 13 May 2023.
“We would like to sincerely thank each member of the bigger squad for their participation in the trials. The squad consisted of a highly-talented group of cricket players which made the final selection a very difficult one.”
Over-40 inter-provincial tournament background
Wanderers Cricket Club and Old Edwardians Cricket Club will host the inter-provincial tournament, which will feature eight teams:
- Western Province Over-40;
- Boland Over-40;
- Border Over-40;
- Eastern Province Over-40;
- Dolphins Over-40;
- Titans Over-40;
- East Rand Over-40; and
- Lions Over-40.
The tournament is scheduled to start on 8 May and end on 12 May. Matches will be contested over 45 overs per innings.
South Africa will host the Over-40 World Cup in 2024. South Africa hosted the Over-50 World Cup earlier this year.
