Player-coach Rushdi Jappie has returned to Brackenfell Cricket Club from Rylands Cricket Club.

Jappie has succeeded outgoing Brackenfell Cricket Club head coach Wesley Thomas.

Jappie exited Ottoman Cricket Club for Rylands Cricket Club in 2018 – and was player-coach for four seasons.

This will be his Jappie’s second stint with Brackenfell Cricket Club. He played for them several years ago. They were a Cricket Boland club at the time, but have since moved to the Western Province Cricket Association.

Jappie was playing first-class cricket for Boland at the time, too. He has also been capped by the Titans and Easterns during a seven-year first-class career from 2007 to 2014. He was capped once by Western Province at List A level during the same period.

While Rylands Cricket Club have retained WPCA premier league status, Brackenfell Cricket Club have been relegated to the first division A.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rylands Cricket Club and am grateful to the club for allowing me the opportunity to build a thriving junior cricket section there,” Jappie told Club Cricket SA.

“I wish Rylands well in the WPCA premier league. They have the individual and collective ability to do well in that league.

“I’m now looking forward to joining Brackenfell in an attempt to lift them back into the premier league. The 2023-24 WPCA first division A campaign will be challenging, but I’m confident we can make it happen.

“Brackenfell have some reasonable structures in place and I believe I can add even more value as a player and coach. Again, I wish Rylands well, but my senior cricket focus is now with Brackenfell.”

Brackenfell Cricket Club, meanwhile, have lost all-rounder Philip Kleynhans and seamer Brandon Viret. They have joined Bellville Cricket Club.
