Spectators will be allowed to attend club cricket matches at the start of the 2021-22 Western Province Cricket Association club season.

Attendance had been disallowed during the 2020-21 club season, which only comprised informal non-league fixtures, as a measure against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Formal league fixtures will resume this week – approximately 19 months since the premature conclusion of the 2019-20 WPCA club season due to the pandemic.

What WPCA CEO Michael Canterbury said

“We welcome back all our amateur cricket programs,” added Canterbury.

“We want to thank our stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring all necessary measures are put in place at ground level, so all coronavirus regulations are adhered to.

“We hope that the season starts brightly and continues throughout without enforced interruptions.

“Good luck to all the cricketers for the season ahead and thank you in advance to all the committed administrators, scorers, umpires and ground staff for their time and energy to the game.”
