The Pretoria Capitals have appointed former Proteas batsman Dale Benkenstein assistant coach for the SA20.
Benkenstein played 23 ODIs from 1998 to 2002 before moving into coaching.
He has held coaching roles with Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Lancashire in English county cricket – and worked with the Proteas and Dolphins in South Africa.
The Pretoria Capitals hired former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis as an assistant coach earlier this week, too. Kallis and Benkenstein will work alongside head coach Graham Ford.
The Pretoria team are owned by JSW Sports, who also own the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
The Pretoria Capitals signed Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje and Knights seamer Migael Pretorius prior to 19 September 2022’s SA20 player auction.
The inaugural edition of the SA20, which will comprise six teams – all owned by companies who also own franchises in the IPL – is scheduled to start on 17 January 2023.
