Proteas star Mignon du Preez has ended a lengthy six-season stay with the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Du Preez has joined the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2021 edition of the BBL.
“I’ve obviously loved my time playing with the Stars, but am really looking forward to this new challenge with the Hurricanes,” said du Preez.
“From afar, the Hurricanes have been running a great program for several years now and have been building a great list over the off-season, so I can’t wait to experience it for myself.
“It’s a great competition the WBBL, involving the best group of female cricketers in the world. I think with the team the Hurricanes have built for this season, combining both old and new faces, we will really have the opportunity to make a statement on-field this year.”
Brisbane Heat recruit Proteas duo
Late last month, South African all-rounders Nadine de Klerk and Anneke Bosch were recruited by the Brisbane Heat in the WBBL.
This is Bosch’s first stint in the WBBL. De Klerk has played for the Heat previously.
“We were really impressed with Nadine and how she adapted and improved across the tournament, which was played in some pretty challenging conditions due to the strict bio-security regime we all had to follow,” said Brisbane Heat head coach Ashley Noffke.
“She’s ultra-competitive and give us another player who likes to get in and get the job done. She bowled well last season and did some unselfish work with the bat when it was needed.
“Anneke impressed us with her composure as well as her ability. In all our dealings with her, and the scouting we did before signing her, her strengths are that she is a talented individual who also works hard to enhance the other players around her.”
The 2021 WBBL is scheduled to start in Sydney, Australia, on 14 October.
