The International Cricket Council have announced the fixtures for the 2023 World Cup in India.
Reigning champions England and 2019 runners-up New Zealand will contest the opening match of this year’s World Cup in Ahmedabad on Thursday, 5 October.
Proteas’ 2023 World Cup fixtures
- 7 October: v Sri Lanka, Delhi
- 13 October: v Australia, Lucknow
- 17 October: v Netherlands, Dharamsala
- 21 October: v England, Mumbai
- 24 October: v Bangladesh, Mumbai
- 27 October: v Pakistan, Chennai
- 1 November: v New Zealand, Pune
- 5 November: v India, Kolkata
- 10 November: Afghanistan, Ahmedabad
“At the World Cup, each team plays the other nine in a round-robin format. The top four qualify for the knockout stage and semi-finals,” read a statement from the ICC.
“Australia take on South Africa on 13 October in Lucknow, hoping for a reversal of fortunes as a dramatic meeting in the last edition ended in the Proteas’ favour.
“The much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash is scheduled for Sunday, 15 October in Ahmedabad. Their last encounter in the 2019 World Cup was a high-scoring affair with India achieving a huge victory in Manchester.”
