Former Proteas captain Kepler Wessels has been retained on Cricket Australia’s match referees panel.

Wessels joined the Cricket Australia supplementary referee panel during the country’s 2018-19 domestic season. He was promoted to the full panel in 2020-21 – and has since officiated Big Bash League and first-class fixtures.

“We’re delighted to have all of the officials who did such a great job in sometimes challenging circumstances back for the 2021-22 season,” said Cricket Australia head of cricket operations Peter Roach.

“We are very confident the vast experience of the nine panel members will continue to ensure all our competitions have the best possible oversight.

“We look forward to continuing our work with this group ahead of what promises to be another exciting summer of cricket.”

Kepler Wessels’ background in brief

Wessels played Test cricket for Australia in the 1980s before returning to South Africa.
