1. Zander de Bruyn
De Bruyn played three Tests for South Africa in 2004 – and represents Old Edwardians Cricket Club in the Lions Veterans Cricket League.
2. Ashwell Prince
Former Proteas batsman Prince captained Western Province Over-40 to the inter-provincial tournament title in May 2023 – and has been named in the South Africa Over-40 squad.
3. Alviro Petersen
Former Proteas batsman Petersen plays for Glenvista Cricket Club and has hit a double-century in the Lions Veterans Cricket League.
4. Garnett Kruger
Kruger played three ODIs and a T20I for South Africa in 2006 – and has represented Lions Over-40. He is team-mates with Petersen at Glenvista Cricket Club.
5. Suresh Perera
Spinner Perera played three Tests and 20 ODIs for Sri Lanka from 1998 to 2001 – and has since represented Australia Over-40.
6. Hamish Marshall
Former Test batsman Marshall played for New Zealand Over-40 earlier this year. “It’s an opportunity to perform for your country and be competitive again,” said Marshall at the time.
7. James Marshall
Former ODI batsman Marshall also played for New Zealand Over-40 in 2023. “I think for anyone representing their country in any sport at any level is a great honour,” he said.
8. Shahid Afridi
The Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association recently stated all-rounder Afridi will play for Pakistan Over-40 later this year.
9. Misbah-ul-Haq
The Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association also announced the participation of former Pakistan captain and coach Misbah.
10. Younis Khan
Former Test captain Khan, too, was included in the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association’s for a tournament in Karachi later this year.
Darren Stevens and others
The inaugural Over-40 World Cup is scheduled for March 2024.
Several former international cricketers competed in the Over-50 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year. The next Over-50 World Cup will be played in Sri Lanka.
Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens, who has not formally retired from first-class cricket, recently debuted for England Over-40.
