Batsman Wayden Mampa broke a Macassar Cricket Club record in the Western Province Cricket Association second division this month.
The 14-year-old Mampa became the youngest player in the recorded history of Macassar Cricket Club to hit a half-century for the first XI.
He hit 54 against Ikamva Cricket Club on Saturday, 11 January 2025.
“History was made when Mampa became the youngest player in the history of Macassar Cricket Club to score a half-century in the first XI,” read a statement from Macassar Cricket Club. “He played in the third team and second team, then finally made his first team debut against Mamre Cricket Club.
“Wayden has shown composure and we are proud of him. He is an inspiration for all youngsters in the Macassar community.”
Macassar Cricket Club currently occupy second position in the 2024-25 WPCA second division. They are flanked by first-placed Northpine Cricket Club and third-placed Mamre Cricket Club.
