A wrap of day five at the 2017 Momentum National Club Championship in Pretoria, where Stellenbosch University Cricket Club’s Jean Bredenkamp scored a fine century, the North-West University Cricket Club’s Lesego Senokwane clinched a superb five-wicket haul – and the University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks) were crowned champions.

Short reports

A masterful century from the hard-hitting Jean Bredenkamp, who was well aided by half-centurion Niel Botha, ensured the Stellenbosch University Cricket Club (Maties) a tight five-wicket triumph over the University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks), who were crowned 2017’s champions despite the defeat.

Spinner Lesego Senokwane’s superb five-wicket haul – followed by middle-order star Marques Ackerman’s commanding half-century – carried the North-West University Cricket Club (Pukke) to a tidy six-wicket win over the University of Fort Hare Cricket Club.

Batsman Janko Dreyer’s solid half-century, the talented Raynard van Tonder’s complementary 41 – and spinner Leus du Plooy’s two middle-order breakthroughs – proved key in the University of the Free State Cricket Club’s (Kovsie) comfortable 24-run victory over 2015 champions Crusaders Cricket Club.
