A wrap of day one at the 2017 Momentum National Club Championship in Pretoria, where the Crusaders Cricket Club, University of Pretoria Cricket Club and North-West University Cricket Club triumphed.

Short reports

  • A four-wicket haul from seamer Nick Hewer saw the University of Fort Hare Cricket Club restricted to modest total, before young Jordan Grobbelaar’s fine 38 not out carried the Crusaders Cricket Club to a comfortable five-wicket triumph with all of 23.2 overs to spare. Middle-order batsman Loyiso Mdashe’s commanding 43, meanwhile, proved vain for the Eastern Cape outfit.
  • South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen and the talented Rubin Hermann scored 72 not out and 46, respectively, as the University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks) secured a superb seven-wicket win over the University of the Free State Cricket Club (Kovsie), who were unable to capitalise on half-centurion Janko Dreyer’s hard work.
  • An outstanding four-for from first-change bowler Jovaun van Wyngaardt – and middle-order batsman Marques Ackerman’s complementary half-century – ensured the North-West University Cricket Club (Pukke), who are the defending champions, earned a hard-fought three-wicket triumph over Stellenbosch University Cricket Clubs (Maties).
