A wrap of day two at the 2017 Momentum National Club Championship in Pretoria, where Stellenbosch University Cricket Club, University of Pretoria Cricket Club and North-West University Cricket Club triumphed.

Short reports

  • A sterling performance from Kyle Simmonds – and a masterful half-century from fellow all-rounder Neil Botha – orchestrated Stellenbosch University Cricket Club’s (Maties) tight three-wicket triumph over the University of Fort Hare Cricket Club, whose initial ascendancy was ultimately thwarted by Simmonds’ three wickets and half-ton – and Botha’s unbeaten 71.
  • The hard-hitting Janneman Malan scored a superb 111 – and fellow opener Hanco Olivier contributed a telling 97 – as the North-West University Cricket Club (Pukke) achieved a relatively straightforward 88-run victory over the University of the Free State Cricket Club, who are smarting from two consecutive defeats in the 2017 tournament.
  • Commanding half-centuries from opening batsmen Rubin Hermann and Blake Schraader, followed by left-arm fast bowler Ruben Trumpelmann’s three-wicket haul, paved the way for the University of Pretoria Cricket Club’s (Tuks) comfortable 78-run triumph over 2015 champions Crusaders Cricket Club, who beat the University of Fort Hare Cricket Club on Sunday.
