5 breakout stars from BBL 15

Big Bash League 15 is now very much at the business end of proceedings, with the biggest domestic tournament in Australian cricket edging towards the grand final. So who have been the standout stars?
Always blessed with massive names of the game, BBL 15 boasts veteran David Warner as the top run scorer with the likes of Sam Harper, Mitchell Marsh and Matt Renshaw also starring. The competition continues to underline its strength as one of the premier domestic T20 leagues in the world, as highlighted by Cricket Australia.

With the ball, Gurinder Sandhu has taken the most scalps, but he is quickly followed by the likes of Tom Curran, Haris Rauf and Peter Siddle. All in all, each Big Bash side has been able to enjoy some high-class cricket from some of the biggest names in the game, with detailed season statistics available via ESPNcricinfo.

Having so much star quality in a tournament can often make it tough for aspiring talent to poke their heads through the noise.

However, this season has once again found a way to showcase a range of outstanding talent that is looking to break into the category of household name, and Australian site Bets.com.au have provided some stars of the BBL.

Liam Scott – Adelaide Strikers

At just 25 years of age, Liam Scott still has a lot of cricket left to play and, if he continues on his current trajectory, he is a serious prospect for the future.

In the 2025/26 season, Scott has walked out for nine innings and scored 292 runs. His average of 48.66 puts him at almost a half-century every match he plays which is not easy in T20 cricket.

A top score of 91 not out will have Scott questioning what might have been as he finished agonisingly close to a maiden century in the BBL against the Hobart Hurricanes.

His strike rate of 137.08 across the season is a bit lower than some other batters, but many teams would trade an inconsistent batter with a strike rate of 160.00+ for a player like Scott. Throw in five wickets and you suddenly have a batter-heavy all-rounder that can take the odd wicket.

Stints in previous iterations of the Big Bash failed to see Scott perform, but the 2025/26 season may yet prove the launchpad to great things for the youngster.

While the Strikers have not had the best season, they have been able to unearth a player that may yet prove a mainstay of their team for years to come.

Nikhil Chaudhary – Hobart Hurricanes

While Nikhil Chaudhary may have been a part of the Big Bash for three seasons now, he still feels like a relatively unknown prospect in the game. Across the Big Bash, he has been building well.

With the bat in hand, he has gone from 154 runs in the 2023/24 season to 232 in the 2024/25 season. Now, standing at 279 runs in the 2025/26 campaign, whatever happens for the Hobart Hurricanes, they have seen their batter outscore himself in comparison to last season.

A strike rate of over 150.00 comes along with an impressive average of 34.87, which is growth on his 23.20 last season. The one area he has gone backwards in is his bowling, with no wickets this season in comparison to nine across the previous two.

Tim Ward – Hobart Hurricanes

Tim Ward has been able to establish himself as an important cog in a Hobart Hurricanes machine that has been churning out the results this season. Part of their ability to win games has come from the emergence of Ward.

While not as flashy stats wise as the top batters at the competition, Ward has been consistent in his time at the competition.

Not daunted by making his BBL debut in the 2025/26 season, Ward has struck 177 runs at an average of 25.28. A strike rate of 137.20 has seen him go fairly quickly, with a top score of 90 seeing Ward almost breach the three-figure mark in his first season.

Named the Bradman Young Cricketer for 2022, Ward is still looking to make good on the promise that coveted award provides.

While he is yet to hit the heights some expected of him, he has looked in good touch in the pressure cooker of the BBL, and this may yet prove to be the kickstart his career needs to reach new heights.

Oliver Peake – Melbourne Renegades

The youngest of our five breakout players, 19-year-old Oliver Peake has proved himself to be a real handful for the opposition bowlers. His first real season in BBL 15 has seen Peake hit 165 runs at 33, while a top score of 57 put all of his qualities on show.

The focus for Peake will now be on building on a good first season and showing he is not a one season wonder. A BBL strike rate of 137.31 is around the average for players but we would like to see this increased.

Already promising big things not least by being drafted into the Australia A side recently, Peake is one for the future and a name that people will likely hear a lot more from in the years to come.

Joel Davies – Sydney Sixers

Joel Davies has been very impressive with the ball in hand for the Sydney Sixers this season. A total of 10 wickets puts him among the very best in the competition as he continues to grow and improve as a player.

Despite only being 22, Davies has actually been around the BBL since the 2022/23 season. However, slow starts with the ball across his first three seasons saw him take a single wicket over the course of 10 matches.

His breakout competition this term has seen Davies knock over 10 wickets at an average of 11.20. He has also chipped in with the bat, picking up 83 runs, more than he managed across his three previous competitions combined.

While Davies did struggle to make a big impact in his first few tournaments, he is starting to turn up in a big way for the Sixers and may yet be a real star of tomorrow.
