Talking points after four rounds of matches in the 2024-24 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.

1. Toss analysis

There have been 23 tosses this season. Four have resulted in decisions to bat first – and 19 bowl first. The team to win the toss has won the match 56.5 percent of the time.

All six fourth-round matches were won by the team that batted first. In the first round, on 14 October, all six matches were won by the team that bowled first.

Home v away wins

The home team won 15 of the 24 matches, including all six on the opening weekend. The home team has won more matches than the away team in only one of the four rounds.

2. Top of the points table

Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club remain the only unbeaten team after four rounds of fixtures. They have collected 20 points after four bonus-point wins.

Pinelands Cricket Club and Brackenfell Cricket Club are in second and third position, respectively, with 15 points each.

3. Bottom of the points table

Gugulethu Cricket Club and Vikings Cricket Club are at the bottom of the standings in 11th and 12th position, respectively.

Hottentots Holland Cricket Club, Avendale Cricket Club and Strandfontein Cricket Club are mid-table in positions five, six and seven, respectively.

4. Leading batsman

Ottoman Cricket Club’s Mujaahid Toffar is the top run-scorer with 261 in four innings. Toffar has hit two centuries this season.

Brackenfell Cricket Club’s Rushdie Jappie and Lee-Roy Walters are in second and third position, respectively.

5. Leading bowler

Hottentot Holland’s Guillaume Jansen, Strandfontein Cricket Club’s Reece Thomas and Brackenfell Cricket Club’s Ettiene Jewell are the joint leading wicket-takers with 11 each.

Jansen has a lower average and stronger economy rate than Jewell and Thomas.
