Western Province awarded all-rounder Abdallah Bayoumy a rookie contract earlier this week.

Bayoumy played for South Africa Under-19 two years ago and has since been capped by Western Province at T20 and List A level.

“Two years ago, when I earned my first professional cap, it was a highly emotional moment for me, filling my parents and family with immense pride,” said Bayoumy.

“Since then, I’ve continued moving forward without any hesitation. However, I know that the real hard work starts now.

“Upon hearing the news, immense joy filled my heart, and a sense of calm settled over my mind. Years ago, I would watch these players on TV, longing to meet them and perhaps even get a photo or signature.

Fast forward to today, I find myself sharing the dressing room and field with these experienced players whom I’ve long admired.”

Bayoumy featured in Western Province’s title-winning One-Day Cup campaign earlier this year.

He took three wickets in the final against North West. A week earlier, he had taken four wickets against Boland.

Earlier in the tournament, he struck a match-winning half-century against the Dolphins.

“Lifting my first trophy was an incredible feeling, hearing about WP not winning silverware for a while and then having the chance to play in a home final after remaining unbeaten in the competition was special,” he added.

“Being part of the winning team and contributing in any way, whether through wickets, runs, catches, or run-outs, was an unbelievable experience.

“It was a moment of immense pride and satisfaction, knowing that our hard work had paid off and we had achieved something significant as a team.”
