African Warriors Cricket Club seamer Andile Phehlukwayo has been named in South Africa’s squad for October 2016’s ODI series against Australia.

Kempton Park Cricket Club’s Tabraiz Shamsi has been retained – and Phehlukwayo included in the squad for the one-off fixture against Ireland in Benoni later this month, too.

“Andile was our leading wicket-taker for South Africa A in the recently-concluded quadrangular series in Australia and he has been knocking on the door for some time following his strong performances,” said Cricket South Africa selection committee convener Linda Zondi.

“Both he and Dwaine Pretorius have shown excellent form recently and the same applies to David Miller, who topped the batting averages in Australia for the South Africa A squad, with the outstanding figures of 332 runs at an average of 110 – and a strike-rate of 93. It remains our practice to reward players who do well at franchise and South Africa A level.”

The 20-year-old Phehlukwayo made three appearances for African Warriors Cricket Club in the 2015-16 KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union premeir league.
