Batsman Aiden Markram is available for South Africa’s Champions Trophy semi-final against New Zealand in Pakistan on Wednesday.

Markram was in doubt after sustaining a hamstring injury during last week’s win over England, but has since passed a fitness test.

“Aiden has passed his fitness test and is available for selection for the semi-final against New Zealand on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.

Markram captained the Proteas against England in the absence of the ill Temba Bavuma.

“I think it’s alright. It feels okay. Hopefully over the next few days, I can get some good rest and then sort it out and be good to go from there,” said Markram at the time.

Bavuma, too, has recovered – and will resume the captaincy against New Zealand.

New Zealand’s bowling is formidable. Quite a disciplined bowling attack. Up front the guys with the new ball don’t give you much to score from,” said Bavuma.

You’ve got to be decisive as an opening batter, and then in the middle, you’ve got guys again who are able to squeeze the game and force you to make mistakes.

“We know as batters we’re going to have to work hard. We’re going to have to bat ourselves into a position where we can make the play against them.”

If victorious on Wednesday, South Africa will play India in Sunday’s final in Dubai. India beat Australia in Tuesday’s first semi-final.

Meanwhile, Western Province all-rounder George Linde has joined South Africa’s squad as a travelling reserve. Linde has not played ODI cricket since 2021.
