Allan Donald has hailed Proteas fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi as “up there” with “the greatest pace quartet in history”.
Rabada, Nortje, Jansen and Ngidi shared 18 wickets in South Africa’s victory over England in the first Test at Lord’s recently.
“Someone asked me if they were the greatest pace quartet in history and I would say without a shadow of doubt that they are up there,” Donald told Sportsmail.
“England knew South Africa’s attack would come at them and come at them with some venom. That’s exactly what we saw in that first Test.
“I’m super proud. It’s a great bowling attack. We had been saying for weeks in the build-up that this attack was going to be a different proposition for England. They’ve now laid down the marker for the rest of the series.”
Donald on Coetzee
Former Proteas fast bowler Donald has coached several international and domestic teams, including Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa, Warwickshire and the Knights.
The Knights have 21-year-old seamer Gerald Coetzee, who has toured with the Proteas but not yet debuted in international cricket.
“There’s still a young kid, Gerald Coetzee, sitting on the sidelines as well. He will get his chance in due course. He’s a very exciting bowler capable of getting up to 150 kilometers per hour. But there’s no doubt about it – this is a gun attack,” added Donald.
South Africa have an early lead in the three-Test series. The second fixture will start at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday.
