Andries Gous and USA record first ever victory over Bangladesh

The United States of America beat Bangladesh in Wednesday’s first T20I at Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston, Texas.

Bangladesh posted a final total of 153 for six in 20 overs.

USA replied with 156 for five in 19.3 overs. Former South African franchise cricketer Andries Gous hit 23. Former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson collected 34 not out.

This was USA’s first ever victory over Bangladesh.

“I am really happy the way we played actually, winning the toss and bowling first. Credit goes to our spinners, the way they utilised the conditions and bowled at the right areas,” said USA captain Monank Patel.

“The bowling unit gave us crucial wickets. The way they bowled against the left and right combination of Bangladesh batters throughout the 20 overs, we managed it well.

“The way Harmeet Singh and Corey finished the game, all credit to them. We want to carry all the positives from today and make sure the mistakes made today won’t be repeated in the next few games.”

The second T20I of this three-match series will be played at the same venue on Thursday. The final match, again in Houston, will be played on Saturday.

Bangladesh and USA will compete at next month’s T20 World Cup. The tournament will be hosted in the USA and West Indies.
