Washington Freedom beat the Los Angeles Knight Riders by six wickets in this week’s Major League Cricket fixture at Church Street Park in Morrisville, United States of America.

Proteas batsman Rilee Rossouw and West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell hit 41 and 70 not out, respectively, in Los Angeles’ final total of 175 for seven in 20 overs. Proteas seamer Marco Jansen took two wickets. Fast bowler Anrich Nortje and spinner Dane Piedt went wicketless.

Opener Andries Gous hit 40 off 15 balls before middle-order batsman Obus Pienaar collected 26 not out from 16 in Washington’s reply of 177 for four in 18.1 overs.

“The body is good, most games in T20 you have to play with a niggle. I have perhaps played only a 100 games fully fit,” said Russell, who was named Player of the Match.

“We still have one more game to go and we will see how things are. I am enjoying batting, but our team results are an issue. Hope we can finish with a win and have a glass of orange juice for that. We still have a good unit, need to keep backing ourselves.”
