Claremont Cricket Club all-rounder Josh Breed welcomed a List A debut for Western Province in Sunday, 22 December 2019’s CSA One-Day Challenge fixture against KwaZulu-Natal at Durbanville Cricket Club.
Breed followed the footsteps of fellow leg-spinner Kyle Williamson, who played for Claremont Cricket Club and debuted for Western Province in the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, before moving to Australia.
Breed removed former Proteas batsman Vaughn van Jaarsveld en route to figures of two for 44 in eight overs.
Green Point Cricket Club’s Zac Elkin then struck an unbeaten 73, after Rondebosch Cricket Club’s Tayo Walbrugh had fallen for 92, as Western Province won the match by seven wickets.
Breed was a late arrival to Claremont Cricket Club’s 2019-20 Western Province Cricket Association premier league campaign, having spent the winter in the United Kingdom. He represented Cheltenham Cricket Club – and played several fixture for Worcestershire in the Second Eleven Championship.
