Former ODI and T20I cricketer Nigel Jones has been named in Ireland Over-40’s squad for this week’s fixture against Wales Over-40 in Dublin.
Jones played 14 ODIs and five T20Is from 2010 to 2012 – and is currently Leinster Lightning head coach in Irish first-class cricket.
Ireland Over-40 have also selected former Pakistan first-class cricketer Shahid Iqbal.
Former ODI cricketers Kenny Carroll and John Anderson, who were key to Ireland Over-40’s win over England Over-40 earlier this year, have also been named in the squad. Former ODI batsman Dom Joyce will again captain Ireland Over-40.
“The match against England was taken very seriously by all involved and produced some excellent, quality cricket,” said Ireland Over-40 seamer Allan Eastwood.
“It was a chance to represent Ireland, and everyone involved was immensely proud, as they should be. We knew that England were very well organised with a full coaching staff, and plenty of county experience in their ranks.
“We produced a fine all-round performance to get the win, and hopefully we can put in a similar performance against Wales. We have a good mix of talented players, most of whom are still plying their trade in senior cricket in Ireland and beyond, and still producing the goods.”
