Wynberg Cricket Club batsman Shane Dixon reached 1,000 runs for the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association season last week.

Dixon has been playing for Wynberg Cricket Club in, predominantly, the WPCA third division A – and occasionally the second division.

His 1,000-run tally includes five centuries, with a highest score of 197 against Northpine Cricket Club.

“Shane has had a brilliant season, even though he missed a few games while on duty with the Indoor Cricket South Africa team,” said Wynberg Cricket Club life member Craig Young.

“Reaching the 1,000-run mark for the season is a wonderful achievement. His efforts have been so valuable.”

Dixon follows Koen’s Wynberg Cricket Club milestone

Dixon is the second Wynberg Cricket Club batsman to collect 1,000 runs or more during the 2022-23 WPCA season.

Last month, third division C batsman Donavon Koen was the first to reach the milestone.

“It’s amazing to have not one, but two batsmen score over 1,000 runs in the season,” said Wynberg Cricket Club captain Wesley Henry.

“It doesn’t only show the talent and quality of players at the club, but also the environment we try to create for players to express themselves in a way that produces these kinds of achievements.”
