South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been added to the Delhi Capitals squad for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, which will start next month.

Nortje has replaced England all-rounder Chris Woakes, who has withdrawn from the tournament.

The 26-year-old Nortje was due to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2019 IPL, but was sidelined by injury.

“I am excited to join the Delhi Capitals, a team that was the talk of the tournament last season,” said Nortje.

“With its exciting mix of experienced and young players and a stellar coaching line-up, there is no doubt this is going to be a massive learning experience for me. I am grateful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this opportunity.”

Who else is in the Capitals squad?

The Capitals also have Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, England batsman Jason Roy and Australian duo Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey.

The franchise’s head coach is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. The Capitals, who used to be called the Delhi Daredevils, have never won the IPL. This year’s tournament will be played in the United Arab Emirates.

I’m excited to go back to Dubai for the IPL. I’ve not been since the 2014 Under-19 World Cup and I’ve always wanted to visit again,” added Rabada.
