Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje has withdrawn from the Los Angeles Knight Riders’ squad ahead of the 2025 edition of Major League Cricket in the United States of America due to a back injury.
Nortje has been replaced by the West Indies’ Dominic Drakes in Los Angeles’ squad.
“Squad update – Windies all-rounder Dominic Drakes will be replacing Anrich Nortje for the 2025 MLC season. We wish Anrich a quick recovery,” read a statement from the Knight Riders.
Nortje played for MI New York for Major League Cricket in 2024. In 2023, he was in the Washington Freedom squad.
Nortje was with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
Washington are the reigning MLC champions. MI New York won the inaugural edition in 2023.
Other South Africans will be involved in the 2025 tournament, including wicketkeeper-batsmen Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen.
