Former Proteas batsman Ashwell Prince has resigned as Bangladesh batting coach with immediate effect.
Prince assumed the role with Bangladesh after resigning as Western Province head coach in August 2021.
He is currently involved in Victoria Cricket Club’s 2021-22 Western Province Veterans Cricket Association league campaign – and was named in the XI for Wednesday’s fixture against Cape Town Cricket Club.

“Yes, Prince has resigned. I have just received his e-mail. He has stepped down citing family reasons. Apart from that, he did not mention any particular reason,” said Bangladesh Cricket Board chairman of cricket operations Jalal Yunus.
“It’s really surprising. We had said that we would decide on his role once he returns from South Africa. We never said that he wouldn’t continue. We would have discussed it after his return. But he has made a decision before that.”
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan added: “Jamie Siddons will be the new national team’s batting coach. We have heard from senior cricketers and board directors that he is a good coach, which is why we brought him here.
“Maybe after Siddons’ arrival, Prince thought we were thinking differently. But he could have stayed so that we could get him to work in a different capacity.”
Prince played 66 Tests, 52 ODIs and a T20I between 2002 and 2011 before pursuing a career in coaching.
He played under four Test captains – Graeme Smith, Shaun Pollock, Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis. Prince captained the Test XI twice, against Sri Lanka in 2006.
