Whether the Warriors will remain in division one or be relegated to division two in South African domestic cricket will be decided next month.
The Warriors currently occupy last position on this season’s 4-Day Domestic Series, division one, points table. They are also in the bottom half of Cricket South Africa’s cumulative points table.
“It would be a massive blow for a region that has been a major contributor to South African cricket for many years,” said former Proteas and Warriors batsman Ashwell Prince told the Sunday Times.
“Go back to those schools like Selborne College, St Andrew’s College, Grey High School and create a proper structure in the school system.
“It’s the same for Gelvandale, where I come from, and the northern areas of Gqeberha – those kids need a platform.
“You have to identify players, not just stick 11 kids into a taxi – it’s not that easy. Identify players who have the potential to go through the system, play for the union and then go on to represent South Africa.”
The Warriors will host the Dolphins in the 4-Day Domestic Series this week.
