Batsman Mbuyiselo Xakana has joined Avendale Cricket Club from Gugulethu Cricket Club.

Xakana performed superbly during an otherwise disappointing 2017-18 first division A campaign for Gugulethu Cricket Club.

His arrival will boost an Avendale Cricket Club outfit eager to pursue promotion from the first division A to premier league during a challenging 2018-19 campaign.

“We are really pleased to have Mbuyiselo join us. His ability with the bat will hopefully bring us some good runs,” said Avendale Cricket Club coach Marcus Oliphant.

Seamer Jody Lawrence’s move from the University of Western Cape Cricket Club to Avendale Cricket Club was confirmed earlier this year. Fast bowler Renaldo Meyer, though, has since joined Victoria Cricket Club.

“Mbuyiselo, along with Jody, will surely do a lot of good for the team. It’s an exciting season ahead, with one-day instead of two-day cricket,” added Oliphant.

“We are looking forward to a really good campaign. We were in fourth position last season, before it came to an early end.”

Meanwhile, in the first division B, Montrose Cricket Club have recruited all-rounder Muneer Alexander from United Cricket Club.

Alexander’s exit couples former United Cricket Club captain Mujahid Behardien’s departure for Primrose Cricket Club.
