Birmingham Bears batsman Aaron Thomason will be hard pressed for a stronger performance for Bellville Cricket Club, come 14 and 15 October’s Western Province Cricket Association Ama20 Competition fixtures against Western Province Cricket Club and Milnerton Cricket Club, respectively.
Thomason joined Bellville Cricket Club prior to 7 and 8 October’s Ama20 Competition matches, which resulted in defeat to Cape Town Cricket Club, a tie with Ottoman Cricket Club and victory over the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club.
The hard-hitting right-hander was dismissed for just five against Cape Town Cricket Club and 14 against Ottoman Cricket Club, but struck a brisk 37 from just 26 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes, against the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club.
The 20-year-old Thomason was a key member of the Birmingham Bears’ 2017 Natwest T20 Blast campaign, which culminated in a tight defeat to Nottinghamshire in early September’s final.
His talent with the bat was particularly evident during August’s matches against Worcestershire and the eventual champions. He compiled a quick 33 not out against the Rapids and a cavalier 42 against the Outlaws.
Thomason is among several county cricketers involved in the 2017-18 WPCA season, including Gloucestershire and Brackenfell Cricket Club seamer Chris Liddle and former Kent and Durbanville Cricket Club fast bowler Charlie Hartley.
