The talented Nigel Dirks has secured Bellville South Cricket Club’s Bowler of the Season and Player of the Season awards, after a relatively successful 2016-17 Western Province Cricket Association first division C campaign.

Bellville South Cricket Club occupied third position in the 10-team standings, narrowly missing promotion to the first division B, after six victories in nine attempts.

Dirks was instrumental throughout, clinching an impressive 61 wickets at the remarkable average of 7.93. The left-arm wrist spinner’s most telling performance was against Langa Cricket Club. He secured superb figures of eight for 28 in the first innings – and a complementary four for 17 in the second – as the hosts completed a comfortable triumph.

“Nigel is the vice-captain and is a very hard-working, dedicated person. He put in so much hard work – and it all paid off for him. He is a brilliant bowler – and his batting has improved immensely. When the captain called on him to bowl, the team could rest assured that he would take wickets. He is a real team player – an gives his all,” club and match secretary Elrich Maart told Club Cricket SA.

The hard-hitting Adnaan Gelderbloem clinched the Batsman of the Season accolade. He amassed a solid 463 runs in 15 innings, which included a fine century against Blue Bells Cricket Club.
