England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of competitive cricket for up to three months due to a recurring hamstring injury.
Stokes will miss January 2025’s SA20. He had been signed by MI Cape Town for the third edition of the tournament.
“Something else to overcome – go on then. I’ve got so much more left in this tank and so much more blood sweat and tears to go through for my team and this shirt,” wrote Stokes on X – formerly Twitter.
“There’s a reason I have a phoenix permanently inked on my body. See you on the field to f*** some s*** up.”
Former New Zealand cricketers Mitchell Mitchell McClenaghan and Kruger van Wyk have joined MI Cape Town’s coaching staff. McClenaghan and van Wyk have been appointed bowling and fielding coach, respectively.
MI Cape Town head coach Robin Peterson and batting coach Hashim Amla have been retained.
MI Cape Town ended in last position at the end of the 2024 and 2023 SA20. They have collected six wins and 14 defeats.
Meanwhile, the Paarl Royals have replaced England seamer John Turner with Sri Lankan seamer Eshan Malinga.
Next year’s SA20 will start on 9 January. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the reigning champions.
