Cricket South Africa have not given spinner Bjorn Fortuin a contract for the 2025-26 season.
Fortuin and all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo were contracted in 2024-25, but have not been retained for 2025-26.
“It is a national contract – and I was not under any illusions that I was going to hold it forever,” said Fortuin.
“Is it warranted that I lost my contract? I don’t think so and a lot of people don’t think so.
“I don’t play to people’s beliefs. Whether they believe it or not, I know how good I am and I know I am good enough for the international stage.
“Whether or not the people in charge or the powers that be think about this is not in my control.”
Fortuin has played 13 ODIs and 25 T20Is since debuting in international cricket in 2019. He has been included in the South Africa A squad for next month’s tour of West Indies.
Fast bowlers Kwena Maphaka and Lizaad Williams – and all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy – have been contracted for the first time by CSA.
All-rounder Wiaan Mulder, wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne and batsman David Bedingham previously received contract upgrades – and have been retained.
Batsmen Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller have been given hybrid contracts.
