Former Proteas Women batter Lizelle Lee has joined the Blaze for the remainder of the 2023 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in the United Kingdom.

Lee has replaced current Proteas Women cricketer Nadine de Klerk in the Blaze squad. De Klerk will soon tour Pakistan with South Africa.

“I am very excited to join up with the Blaze, particularly having played with some of my soon-to-be team-mates during The Hundred,” said Lee, who recently played for Trent Rockets Women.

“They have been playing really well across all competitions so far, and I hope that I can contribute and help push for qualification in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.”

Lee played two Tests, 100 ODIs and 82 T20Is before retiring from international cricket in 2022.

“Lizelle is a great addition for us as we get to the business end of the competition,” added Blaze head coach Chris Guest.

“We’ll benefit not only from her skills, but her knowhow in big games, too. We’ve seen plenty of times how destructive she can be on her day.”
