Former Proteas and Boland batsman Stiaan van Zyl retired from professional cricket earlier this year.

Van Zyl played 201 first-class matches from 2006 to 2024. He was capped in first-class cricket by the Cape Cobras 90 times, Sussex 40 times and Boland 32 times. Van Zyl also played 12 Tests from 2014 to 2016.

“Join us to celebrate the remarkable career of Stiaan Van Zyl. From his incredible performances in the middle to his unwavering dedication to the game, Stiaan has left an indelible mark on South African cricket and beyond,” read a statement from Boland on social media on Friday.

“Thank you, Stiaan, for your passion, talent, and countless memories. Here’s to a legend of the game.”

Van Zyl’s final innings for Boland were 26 and 31 during February 2024’s 4-Day Domestic Series, division one, fixture against North West in Paarl.

He is pursuing a career as a professional umpire.
