Boland have offered batsman Pieter Malan a contract extension ahead of the 2024-24 domestic season in South Africa.

Malan joined Boland from Western Province in 2021 – and has since played for Warwickshire and Middlesex in English county cricket.

He was capped three times at Test level by the Proteas in 2020.

“I can confirm that we have offered Pieter an extension to his three-year contract. So we’re hoping he will stay. Stiaan van Zyl is retiring – I can tell you that,” Boland chief executive officer James Fortuin told Rapport.

“What I am prepared to say is that we’re looking to refresh the squad considerably in the off-season. We’ve been called an old age home – that hurts.”

Strydom rejects Western Province

Meanwhile, Dolphins Cricket chief executive officer Heinrich Strydom will not become the new chief executive officer of the Western Province Cricket Association.

Former WPCA CEO Michael Canterbury’s tenure ended earlier this year.

WPCA president Johannes Adams wanted to appoint Canterbury’s successor by the end of March 2024. Strydom was offered the position, but declined.

“It was an incredibly difficult decision to make,” Strydom told Rapport.

“I was really looking forward to the challenge at Newlands but, unfortunately, I had to decline the offer in the end.

“It has given me a great chance to reset and hopefully take KwaZulu-Natal Cricket and the Dolphins to the next level as we prepare for the 2027 World Cup.”
