Batsman Brent Johnson has left the Devil’s Peak Dragons for the Peninsula Patriots, ahead of the 2021 Cape Premier League.

Johnson transferred for 800,000 CPL dollars – the fictional currency used in the tournament.

He was bought by the Dragons for 25,000 at last year’s player auction. The 2020 edition of the CPL, however, ultimately was not played amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Dragons, meanwhile, have acquired all-rounder Sabir Mallie from the District Sixers for 1.2 million.

The Patriots are new to the CPL, which has grown from six to eight teams. The West Coast Outlaws are the other addition.

The 2021 player auction will take place at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday, 30 July.

This year’s CPL is scheduled to start in late September and run until mid-October.

The Cape Vikings are the reigning champions, after beating the Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls in the inaugural final in 2019.
