Captain Ashley Bain struck a remarkably brisk century, as Camps Bay Cricket Club welcomed a record total against Green Point Cricket Club at the Maroon Oval – in the Western Province Cricket Association third division A recently.
Bain’s 144 off a mere 77 deliveries featured 27 fours and a solitary six – and carried the hosts to a monumental 338 for four from the allotted 35 overs. The hard-hitting Daniel Eardley, meanwhile, struck a complementary 71 not out off 27.
Green Point Cricket Club’s reply amounted to a severely insufficient 137 for eight, resulting in a 201-run victory for Camps Bay Cricket Club – another club record.
Saturday’s outcome marginally bolstered Bain and company’s bid to avoid relegation to the WPCA third division B. Green Point Cricket Club, meanwhile, slipped further down the bottom half of the third division A standings.
