Cape Town Cricket Club and Western Province fast bowler Thando Ntini has been named in the Cape Cobras’ squad for next week’s 4-Day Franchise Series fixture against the Dolphins in Pietermaritzburg.
Ntini joined Cape Town Cricket Club during the 2018-19 season – and recently welcomed a first XI debut against the University of Cape Town Cricket Club at Langa Cricket Club in the Western Province Cricket Association’s Ama20 Competition premier league.
The 19-year-old right-armer has taken 14 wickets in four first-class matches for Western Province, including three during this week’s innings and 77-run defeat to Northerns at Newlands in the CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup.
He will play for the Paarl Rocks in the second edition of the Mzansi Super League later this year, after being purchased for R50,000 during the final round of the player draft last month.
“Thank you so much for this lovely opportunity, it’s a dream come true. I would like to dedicate this special moment to my family, coaches, close friends and all the people at Western Province for making me the person and cricketer I am today. The journey only gets better from here,” Ntini said at the time.
The Cobras are currently at the bottom of the 2019-20 4-Day Franchise Series standings, having lost to the Lions in Potchefstroom and drawn with the Titans in Benoni.
Cape Town Cricket Club and Cobras wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne is the ongoing series’ second-highest run-scorer with 330 runs in four innings, including successive centuries against the Titans. Only Knights batsman Pite van Biljon has more – 348 runs in three innings.
