Cape Town Cricket Club have secured the services of Jersey and Sussex batsman Jonty Jenner for the remainder of the 2016-17 Western Province Cricket Association premier league season.

Jenner recently represented Jersey in the International Cricket Council’s World Cricket League division four in Los Angeles – and enjoyed solid half-centuries in important victories over Italy and the United States of America.

He, too, scored a fine century for Sussex in a key Second Eleven Championship south division match against Surrey last year.

“Hopefully, I can gain some really good skills, bring that back into the season in the United Kingdom and you never know what could happen this year,” the 19-year-old Jenner told BBC Radio Jersey.

“There’s a real big emphasis at the moment on consistently scoring runs, whether it be in the Sussex second team or first team. The next three months will be interesting. I don’t know if they’re going to be very big in my career, we’ll soon find out.”

Cape Town Cricket Club, who utilised Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Rouse last season, are currently fourth in the WPCA premier league’s 10-team standings – and will host southern suburbs rivals Claremont Cricket Club at the Boon Wallace Oval on 21 and 28 January.
