Cape Town Cricket Club wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne formally debuted for the Cape Cobras on Tuesday.

Afforded a Cobras contract earlier this year and the proud recipient of a fine half-century in a pre-season fixture against the Warriors last week,  Verreynne was named in a formidable XI for the visitors’ opening Sunfoil Series fixture against the Knights in Bloemfontein.

The talented 20-year-old will play alongside Proteas batsmen Hashim Amla and Temba Bavuma – and against Test cricketers Theunis de Bruyn and Duanne Olivier – at the Mangaung Oval.

Verreynne sports an average in excess of 53 after 11 first-class matches for Western Province, including a fine century and four complementary half-tons.

He was a key figure for Cape Town Cricket Club’s 2015-16 and 2016-17 Western Province Cricket Association premier league campaigns – and was relatively recently named their Club Cricketer of the Year.

August saw Verreynne listed in the inaugural T20 Global League’s player draft, but he was ultimately not recruited. Cobras team-mates Lizaad Williams and Kyle Simmonds, meanwhile, were hired by the Stellenbosch Kings.
