Claremont Cricket Club lose Duane Viljoen for Veterans Club Championship

Batsman Duane Viljoen has been ruled out of Claremont Cricket Club’s Veterans Club Championship campaign later this month.

Viljoen has been sidelined by an ankle injury.

Viljoen player for Western Province Over-40 in May 2023’s inter-provincial tournament in Johannesburg. Western Province Over-40 won the tournament.

Claremont Cricket Club Veterans will also be without former Proteas seamer Alan Dawson.

Dawson was key to Claremont Cricket Club’s title-winning Western Province Veterans Cricket Association league campaign earlier this year. He has not been named in their squad for the Veteran Club Championship.

Bohemian Cricket Club from East London, Border, are the reigning Veterans Club Championship title holders. They beat Montrose Cricket Club from Cape Town, Western Province in 2022’s inaugural final.

The Veterans Club Championship will feature several players selected for South Africa Over-40 or South Africa Over-40 Invitational, including King Cetshwayo Cricket Club’s Charl Groenewald and old Edwardians Cricket Club duo Warren Dugmore and Brandon Buckley.

Former first-class cricketers will compete in the tournament, including duo Andrew Pollock and Brad White – and former Proteas all-rounder Zander de Bruyn.
