Claremont Cricket Club have appointed all-rounder Josh Breed captain ahead of the 2020-21 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.
Breed has succeeded former captain Mark Hendricks.
Claremont Cricket Club occupied fifth position at the end of the 2019-20 WPCA premier league. They won 12 and lost eight fixtures.
The right-handed Breed struck 519 runs in 16 innings at an average of 37.10. His tally included three half-centuries. He was among the 2019-20 WPCA premier league’s top 15 run-scorers.
Rondebosch Cricket Club, Durbanville Cricket Club, Cape Town Cricket Club and the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club held first, second, third and fourth position, respectively.
Whether Rondebosch Cricket Club will be awarded the 2019-20 WPCA premier league title, though remains in the balance.
A formal dispute involving Durbanville Cricket Club might jeopardise Rondebosch Cricket Club’s position.
The 2019-20 club cricket season ended prematurely as a preventative measure against the spread of the coronavirus.
The 2020-21 season will likely start late due to the same reason.
