Claremont Cricket Club replace overseas player

Claremont Cricket Club will be without captain Darren Stevens for the next two Western Province Cricket Association premier league fixtures.

Kent veteran Stevens will be working with Cricket Scotland, while Claremont Cricket Club face the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club and Victoria Cricket Club.

Claremont Cricket Club have since recruited Kent fast bowler David Griffiths in Stevens’ absence. Leg-spinner Kyle Williamson will act as stand-in captain.

Claremont Cricket Club currently occupy fourth position in 2018-19’s 12-team standings, after two wins in three attempts. The beat Bellville Cricket Club and Langa Cricket Club, but lost to Western Province Cricket Club.

They also boast the services of Essex batsman Alex Milton, who scored a fine century in reserve division A victory over Bellville Cricket Club recently.

Several other foreign players are competing in WPCA premier league and first division A competition, too, including Gloucestershire’s Ian Cockbain for Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club, Northamptonshire’s Ben Curran for Cape Town Cricket Club, Somerset Cricket Club’s Max Waller for Milnerton Cricket Club, Essex’s Michael Pepper for Western Province Cricket Club and Ireland A’s Shane Getkate for Rondebosch Cricket Club.
