Club Cricket SA Player of the Week: Ashley Botha

Tygerberg Cricket Club’s Ashley Botha is the latest beneficiary of the Club Cricket SA Player of the Week award.

Botha struck a hefty century during a key Western Province Cricket Association 3E league fixture victory over Mandalay Cricket Club in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, recently.

The aggressive right-hander amassed an entertaining 151, deservedly earning the Club Cricket SA Player of the Week accolade, which impartially recognises popular first XI all-rounders to specialist fielders in the seventh or eighth team alike.

“After being out of the game for about seven years, it was like riding a bike again for Ashley. He has always been an attacking batsman – and once he got going it was a pleasure to watch,” commented Tygerberg Cricket Club team-mate Brindley Gilbert.

“A former first XI player, but now showcasing his talent in the 6th XI as a 36-year-old, he carted the ball to all parts of the filed. Anything short was dispatched vigorously and the full, bad ball caressed to the boundary. It was an absolute joy to watch.”
