Cape Town Cricket Club’s Brendan Young has claimed the penultimate Club Cricket SA Player of the Week award for March 2019.
Young clinched a telling five-wicket haul in 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association victory over log-leaders Durbanville Cricket Club.
The right-arm fast bowler’s haul of five for 18 in nine overs featured the key wickets of Cape Cobras stars Janneman Malan, Pieter Malan and George Linde.
Young beat stiff competition from Western Province Cricket Club’s Kyle Schreuder for this week’s accolade. Schreuder struck a fine century in triumph over Brackenfell Cricket Club, who also had a centurion in the hard-hitting Michael Loubser.
Claremont Cricket Club fast bowler Marvin Williams also took a five-for, as Ottoman Cricket Club fell to defeat.
In the WPCA first division A, meanwhile, Avendale Cricket Club batsman Shane Dixon hit 94 in defeat to Strandfontein Cricket Club.
University of Cape Town Cricket Club batsman Brandon Tattum gathered 72 in a win over Gugulethu Cricket Club and, a day later, 98 not out against Green Point Cricket Club, whose five-for from Adam Lazarus went in vain.
Tygerberg Cricket Club’s Franco Kasner also welcomed a five-for, in victory over Kraaifontein Cricket Club.
