This week’s increasingly popular award goes to Luke Petersen of Montrose Cricket Club in Cape Town.

The blossoming all-rounder, whose form has been nothing short of superb this season, clinched a match haul of 11 for 81 – and scored a solid half-century – in a key Western Province Cricket Association first division A fixture against Northerns Goodwood.

“Luke has been outstanding in the first two games of the season for us, bowling with good pace and aggression – and swinging the ball nicely,” commented MCC chairman Razeen Allie.

“He has three five-fors in four innings, so far, which is a superb effort. We have been working hard with him and the captain has given him a very specific role and game plan this season, which seems to be working nicely.

“Add a half-century in the first innings against Northerns Goodwood to that and it has been an unbelievable start to the season for him. Hopefully he will be knocking at the door of the Western Province amateur selectors very soon.”

The 25-year-old seamer and right-handed batsman was named Man of the Match, as Montrose Cricket Club won by 66 runs at their new home ground, Malta Park in Mowbray.
